Therapy
My experience
I have experience working with children, adolescents and adults, who struggle with a wide variety of problems, such as:
Anxiety (e.g., anxiety related to social situations and panic attacks)
Mood disorders (e.g., feeling sad and without energy)
Poor social skills (e.g., difficulties connecting with other people)
Emotion regulation problems (e.g., difficulty to deal with anger)
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
Eating disorders
Attention deficit disorder (ADHD)
Trauma (e.g., post-traumatic stress disorder, but also trauma resulting from difficult life events)
Borderline personality disorder (e.g., feel having trouble to balance different emotional states and holding up relationships)
INDIVIDUAL THERAPY WITH ADULTS
My primary goal is to create a “safe-space” built on mutual trust where my clients feel comfortable to share their story.
In order to facilitate positive change in my client’s life I use scientifically proven therapeutic approaches, most often Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Schema Therapy. However, I employ other techniques as well, such Mindfulness or elements of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), in order to tailor every therapy session to my client’s individual needs.
The therapeutic process usually begins with a phone consultation. After that, I use the first few sessions with my clients to get to know each other and develop an individual therapy plan. Therapy sessions last 50 minutes and are usually held on a weekly basis. The duration of the therapy is based on individual factors and will be matched with each client’s needs.
After completing therapy, clients will not only have gained insights and a deeper understanding of themselves, but – more importantly – will also have acquired a “toolbox” of healthy coping strategies to create lasting, positive change in their lives.
INDIVIDUAL THERAPY WITH CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS
Sometimes we - as adults - see our childhood through a blur of nostalgia and in an overly positive light. However, children and adolescents face a range of challenges growing up: from kindergarten to high school, they have to learn new things every day, discover and shape who they want to be, and strive to belong and find their place in society. When internal or external circumstances prevent them from taking the next step in their development (e.g., entering first grade), difficult emotions or behavioural problems can arise.
I am an expert in working with children and adolescents - there is nothing like the creativity, energy and strength that my young clients bring into the room. Through the use of therapeutic tools specifically tailored to younger age groups, humour and games, I try to help them discover their inner strength and teach them coping strategies that will help them face the challenges of growing up and become the person they want to be.
PARENTING SUPPORT
Parenting can be stressful. Sometimes parent’s anxiety, trauma, and stress can get in the way; some parents have children that demand special attention and training to meet their needs or to set boundaries and sometimes we have to deal with obstacles and challenges in life such as relocation, divorce or illness that make parenting all the more challenging.
Through parent counselling, I can help you to master these challenges and become the best parent you can be for your child while respecting your own needs and space.
My approach includes elements from evidence-based parenting programs as well as CBT techniques and a holistic approach to each of the family members’ needs.
